RUSKIN BOND VISITED BAL
BHARATI PUBLIC
SCHOOL,PITAMPURA
One of the most beloved authors of the children
and an eminent story-teller-- Ruskin Bond graced the institution with
his presence after he came to Bal Bharati Public School Pitampura on
11th august at around 10
a.m. He was given a warm welcome firstly by the head of the
institution; Ms. Meenu Goswami and the head of the English Deptt.; Ms
Rashika Singh and later by the children of the school who were eagerly
waiting in the auditorium to have a glimpse of their favourite author.
The visit of the author which could have been possible due to a joint
effort of the institution and ‘penguin’ was a privilege for all Ruskin
bond fans. A short speech by the principal praising his contribution to
the world of books marked the beginning the programme. He addressed an
assembly of almost 300 students where he spoke about his latest
projects. After that the students asked him questions. Different questions were put one
after the other by enthusiastic students wanting to know more about
‘their Ruskin bond’. His opinion on the movies based on his novels like
‘blue umbrella’ was also asked. When one of the children asked
whether he ever get bored of his profession, his immediate response was
a flat ‘NO’. After spending
sixty years as a successful writer he seemed to possess that same love
and passion for his work. The auditorium was filled with laughter as he
mixed his replies with humour. For instance when asked what he would
have been had he not been a writer, he replied that he could have very
well been a footballer or a tap dancer. He also talked about his journey
to the top and how he had to face endless criticism in the early stages
of his career. This was indeed a revelation for the children. The one
hour session seemed petite as the questions kept coming and everyone
wanted to interact individually with him. In the end a formal vote of
thanks was given by Ms. Sarabjeet expressing gratitude on the behalf the
school. Mr. Ruskin Bond, before departing, read out some extract from
his latest book and appreciated the audience for discipline and
patience. He also signed his portrait made by the arts deptt. of the school. His famous books
were also made available in the school premises so that the students
could buy them to get his autograph on them. The event was a success and
each one of those present there would cherish its memory ever
after.
